Dust

And we return to dust
Even if God we trust
We will fertile this soil
When we no longer toil

Yet we fight and we bleed
We’ll take more than we need
Go to war preaching peace
Treat humanity like a disease

So we all turn to ash
we will die with a flash
Even though we are kings
All our money will not buy us wings

Loki’s Story

I watched them bind him
In a cave until Ragnarok they confined him
with entrails from his wretched kin
They had him chained to stifle his grin
And serpent’s venom dripping onto his skin

Loki’s schemes had brought sorrow and pain
Baldur’s heart had been pierced in his game
So,  enraged by the horrible deed
Odin had him bound with great speed
And swore that he would never be freed

Odin’s wife had a plan to cause harm
Onto Loki whose elegant charm
Had once more cost a life
no one could help him in his strife
Not even his loving wife

So the serpent was fastened above
Skadi made sure the drip would flow
The venom so corrosive and strong
Had my Loki writhe in a sentence lifelong
And plead that this was wrong

I took a cup to collect the pain
Of my husband,  now Baldur’s Bane
I would hold hold it over his head
To collect the poison and the dread
For if not he would soon be dead

Though I stay by his side night and day
There are times when I must go away
I must empty my bowl
Let the venom take its toll
And his cries of pain tear at my soul

One day this routine will end
hatred will Ragnarok send
Unleash Fenris wolf and the worm
Let them loose on the world like germs
Make all its inhabitants squirm

Then our Loki again will be free
From his chains and again we will see
How he tricks and deceives everyone
He will lead the monsters and their spawn
And soon everything will be gone

Loki’s Bond

I had watched his dark figure quite long
And my maiden affection had grown strong
I would follow quite near
Watch him hunt with his spear
Oh,  the willows they weep for my fate

I would gather my flowers nearby
Make him look then pretend to be shy
I would lure him with charms
Seek his luck in my arms
Oh, the willows they weep for my fate

But this man had a will of his own
His affection proved only a loan
He had promised me bliss
For the sake of a kiss
Oh,  the willows they weep for my fate

I had not recognised him from lore
Though I felt that I had seen him before
I should have known by his smile
It was Loki all the while
Oh, the willows they weep for my fate

I was totally lost from all sense
Feeling nothing but lust so intense
So I pledged him my life
I would soon become his wife
Oh, the willows they weep for my fate

I was there when he tricked mighty Thor
Into drinking like never before
And Chief Odin the One-eyed
Had a dance and nearly died
Oh,  the willows they weep for our fate

I was there when he proposed a game
Where Baldur would serve as their aim
For an archery competition
Thus Baldur died ere its completion
Oh,  the willows they weep for his fate

I stayed when they sentenced him to pain
And I stood by his side again
They chained him in a cave
So he couldn’t misbehave
Oh,  the willows they weep for our fate

As a dutiful wife I would go
To collect the venomous flow
From the snake overhead
And thus postpone the dread
Oh,  the willows they weep for our fate

Oh,  my Loki would whimper a plead
Promise looking to every need
If I’d just set him free
We could run,  we could flee
Oh,  the willows they weep for our fate

And his words were like honey to drink
I would lick them not pausing to think
But I knew that according to lore
Loki would soon be free once more
Oh,  the willows they weep for our fate

Prometheus Explained

When the sun in the sky projects
Its fabulous beams of light
I am able to view Earth’s beauty
Which is hidden from me at night

So I watch her each day in awe
Of the beauty which light reveals
And I dread the darkened hours
When the night my sweet image steals

But I have a plan stored in my mind
Of a way to make sure that I keep
Having access to images clear
Of my love even when she’s asleep

I shall go to that wheel in the sky
And bring back its forceful light
I shall give to my love precious fire
And never again fear the night

Help me, Helios! Give me your source
to illuminate all with its glow
Help me! Get down to Earth with the spark
So the secrets of night I shall know

Here you are,  my love,  here is your fire
I will ask you to kindle its flame
I shall sit here and watch as you sleep
And the world will remember my name

But the gods are not happy at all
They come knocking as soon as they learn
That their celestial privilege is taken
To inferior beings unearned

They’ll want their revenge for my crime
So they’ll put me in chains on a rock
With an eagle forever to pick
At my liver each day at at always o’clock

Ariadne’s Yarn

I  knew that he would be lost
I had played in the garden before
And despite his heroic might
He would perish like all those before

I had seen many heroes go in
And with crowd cheers thus end their days
For not one had been seen again
Once they entered the legendary maze

I think maybe the beast had got them
The vengeful Minotaurus dwelling inside
Hidden there for shame from my father’s eyes
If they met him there’d be no place to hide

I had never really cared for the heroes
Always boasting and trying to seem smart
But Theseus was different from all of them
And he quickly endangered my heart

For he already placed his name
On the list of the heroes to go in
And I knew our love would have to end
When it was just about to begin

So I called him and told him my plans
I would lend him some help to escape
Thus a small roll of yarn was sewn
In the hem of his hero’s cape

In return for my loving aid
He would come for me if he returned
And he promised to make me his wife
That for my love alone he yearned

But a year passed and Theseus was gone
The were rumours of victory abroad
That my hero had slain the monster
And I saw how my plans were flawed

Unoriginal Sin

In the beginning
There was no shame
There was impulse

In the beginning
There was curiosity
There was innocence

Then
There was boredom
There was frustration

Then
There was temptation
Guilt became excitement

In the beginning
There was a rush
Then
There was danger

In the end
There was anger
There was pain

In the end
There was guilt
And there was shame

þam wuduwealdes cræft (The Power of the Wild)

The pale sunlight shone
Like ladders down the trees
The beasts of the night had gone

replaced by the humming of bees

Moþor hogaþ
Þæt þu
Þam wuduwealdes cræft
Oferfarene

Her path was well prepared
She knew where she wanted to go

Not knowing though if she dared

Her paces had started to slow

Moþor hogaþ
Þæt þu
Þam wuduwealdes cræft
Oferfarene

The cracking sound of a branch

Made her startle and give up a cry

Continued as if in a trance
But a tear had appeared in her eye

Moþor hogaþ
Þæt þu
Þam wuduwealdes cræft
Oferfarene

Such forceful gravitational pull

That place in the forest presented

Even though her life was full
That power was unprecedented

Moþor hogaþ
Þæt þu
Þam wuduwealdes cræft
Oferfarene

It grabbed her without a warning

Twisted and bent her thought

Midnight replaced the bright morning
Her captor she never fought

Moþor hogaþ
Þæt þu
Þam wuduwealdes cræft
Oferfarene

Though strange and slightly deform
His presence itself was enough

His touch was a violent storm

Soon her old self she would slough

Moþor hogaþ
Þæt þu
Þam wuduwealdes cræft
Oferfarene

Totally transformed she was

When they found her the coming day
Her hands had turned into claws

And her soul had been taken away

Moþor bewépeþ

Caught V (the end )

Even his name reeked danger

And she knew she would bleed
Did he capture her

The chase empowered her
The thought of danger gave her strength
The risk of him catching her eventually

And he did
The crudeness of his snare mamed her
She could not escape his claws

But the cage was worse
Her nightmare had only begun
When he grabbed her

Not only was she trapped
From her cage she watched
As he took care of the others

She was not special
A creature of light and beauty,  indeed
But so were the others

He used them
Manipulated their words
And bound them to his

He violated them
Stripped them of their dignity
And raped their minds

So she bled to escape
She slashed her wrist to end it
Before it was her turn to lose.
